If you want to transfer a domain name from one domain registrar to another, you’ll need to pass through a few safety procedures. One of them is getting a special EPP authorization code from the present registrar – as long as you are the registrant, since the code is emailed to the domain owner’s email and no one else can obtain it. You’ll need to give this code to the new registrar, or else they will not be able to start the domain transfer. The EPP authorization codes are case-sensitive and may contain digits or special characters such as dots or commas, which can be easily misentered, so make sure you copy and paste the right code. As an additional security measure, the transfer authorization code for a domain name may be reset regularly. Some registrar companies call this code an Auth key, a domain password or a domain secret as well.
