In case you notice a big increase in the online traffic to your website and if after you examine the visitor stats it turns out that it comes from places around the world or from other servers, your website is more than likely being attacked by an automatic bot. These programs go through random Internet sites seeking to log in to their administrator area using a brute-force attack or to leave spam comments below any sort of article where such an option is available. Regrettably, that's something quite common in recent times, but if you know the IP addresses through which the attacks come, you could block them, so the bots shall not be able to access your site in any way. Of course, you are able to block IPs even if you allow only people from specific countries to access your website.

IP Blocking in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting account with our company and you would like to block one or several IP addresses, you can use the IP Blocking tool, which is integrated into our in-house built Hepsia CP. Using a rather simple interface, you could restrict any IP from accessing your content even if you have never had a web hosting account before. All it requires to do this is to log in to your Control Panel, to navigate to the IP Blocking section, to pick a certain domain or subdomain from a drop-down menu and then to enter the IP address. You won't have to do anything complex if you would like to block a whole network - you will just need to omit the last octet, so entering 1.1.1. with a blank space after the last dot shall block the full range from 1.1.1.1 to 1.1.1.255. All blocked IPs will be listed within the same exact section, so you'll be able to remove any one of them from the blacklist with simply a mouse click.

IP Blocking in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you host your sites within a semi-dedicated server account with us and you need to block one or a few IP addresses at some point, you can leverage the easy-to-use blocking tool, which we've supplied with our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP. With only a few clicks, you will be able to block individual IPs or whole ranges, if necessary. All you will need to do is choose any of your domains or subdomains from a drop-down menu, choose if the blocking should be valid for the root folder or for a subfolder that's part of the Internet site, and then enter the IP address that you'd like to block. For an IP range, you simply need to omit the last octet or the last two octets of the address depending on the size of the network that you want to block. Each of the addresses that you've restricted shall be listed inside the same exact section and if you wish to whitelist any one of them, you shall be able to do it with simply a mouse click whenever you want.
