Every registered domain name has at least 2 Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain address to the servers of a certain website hosting company. That way, you've got both your website and your emails handled by the exact same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, for instance A and MX. The first one reveals which server manages the site for a given domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter shows which server manages the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, any time you enter a domain in your Internet browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you could be forwarded to the servers of another provider in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your Internet domain. Having independent records for the site and the e-mails suggests that you may have your site and your e-mails with two different providers if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting account from our company and you wish to switch either your website or your e-mails to a different company, it's going to take you literally simply two mouse clicks to do so. Our Hepsia CP comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you're going to be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you wish to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard two, it won't take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You can also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a given MX record will have. The propagation of every record that you modify or set up isn't going to take more than a few hours and if needed, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that shows how long a record will remain active after it's changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for any one of your domain addresses or subdomains is extremely easy if you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are maintained by using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which features a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you could click on any of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record is as easy as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even if you have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't experience any problems if you choose to switch your website or emails to a different service provider while keeping the second service with our company. If required, you can also set up additional MX records and set a specific priority based on the recommendations of the new provider.
